I decided to knit a blanket for a friend having her first baby.
She actually had the baby this week…a healthy baby boy over 8lbs!

My first attempt at a blanket ended up looking more like a triangle.
I had followed a pattern that was supposed to be done in the round and only noticed that after I got going on it.
My mom gave me this pattern that she had for a blanket and things went much better with it.

Seeing the colours for my friend’s nursery, I decided to go with this earthy colour mix for the blanket.

This yarn changes colour as you pull it off the ball; I love how some colours do more rows than others.

Pattern

4.5 needles and Skinny Cakes yarn.

For this pattern (K-knit, P-purl)
Cast on multiples of 4+2 stitches.

162 as an example. I went with 144.

Row 1: K1, P to last stitch, K1

Row 2: K all

Row 3: K1, P to last stitch, K1

Row 4: K1,* K3, P1* repeat to last stitch, K1

Row 5: K1, P to last stitch, K1

Row 6: K all

Repeat rows 1-6 to desired blanket length

Bind off and weave in the loose ends.

To keep track of which row I was on, I made a chart with all the rows numbered and then crossed them off as I went.

I chose to start and end with the same colour to keep the pattern even.

I need to work on loosening my casting on and binding off but otherwise the blanket worked out pretty well.

I think that creating something as a gift is important as you not only give whatever you made but also the time it took to make it.

I will definitely make this blanket pattern again in the future.
