I had bought a box of 500 jumbo popsicle sticks. I used some for my popsicle stick bookmarks and others for making a few copies of the Sticks card game. I didn’t have too many left that weren’t bent or cracked but I really wanted to try to make these bracelets.

The first thing you have to do is soak the sticks in water overnight.

The next morning you want to bring a pot of water to a boil.
The pot needs to be wide enough to lay the sticks in flat and the water deep enough to cover them.

Put the sticks into the boiling water and boil for 30 min.

Have a few drinking glasses ready for the sticks.
If the glass has straight sides, you may get more than one in.

Gently and slowly bend each stick starting at one end until you can get the whole stick in the glass.

Allow the sticks to dry in the glass for at least a day.
Remove them from the glass and now you can decorate them.

I chose to burn patterns on a couple of them.

Others I have seen were wrapped with embroidery thread or washi tape.

I noticed that if your drinking glass is too wide, the bracelet is too loose to wear as a bracelet.

This one is about the right size for me as it has enough give to get my wrist through.

A more slender drinking glass is better if you want a tighter bangle.

I decided to see how it would work as a napkin ring.

I think it looks really nice and it could be a party favour to take home.
You could easily customize each one with the guest’s name for a dinner party, holiday dinner or a wedding.

I may drill some holes in each end and attach some embroidery thread, leather or hemp cording to make the bracelets more secure.

The bracelet is a nice idea for older kids to make and decorate as a craft.
I always liked the idea of a wooden bracelet so that is why I was drawn to the idea of trying to make these.
