I have mentioned many times about us finding things to bring home from the free shelve n share at our local dump. We have to take our garbage and recycling there about once every two weeks and we always stop in to see what other treasures people have left that we could potentially take home.
Just this week we grabbed an odd assortment: a 12 lb medicine ball, a book, a serving spoon, a large glass lid, two Robin’s egg blue charger plates and a military stretcher. The military stretcher will likely end up at the Fort McMurray military museum.
Last fall we picked up five of these metal window arches. I assume they came from the loft of a barn or a church. At the time we were not really sure what they would get used for but I initially thought as some sort of decoration for the garden.

About a month ago, Chris found it warm enough to start doing some spray paint art in the garage. He usually paints on small cardboard inserts that they make for comic book backings. He got the itch to try painting on something larger.
Here is what the first painted arch looked like.

Chris continued painting the other four arches using different colours of spray paint. He added a small garden box in the front that he torched to preserve the wood. We found some plastic rectangular potting box inserts at Canadian Tire that fit them perfectly.
Here is what the two blue ones look like.

The red one.

The pink/purple one

These four are now on our deck against the glass railing panels.
Hopefully the colours will be enough now to keep the birds from crashing into the glass.

There is one more arch painted in greens that he either didn’t like as much or he ran out of wood.
Perhaps he has another idea in mind for it.

No matter, now I have a great Mother’s Day gift of four brand new colourful garden boxes to fill with flowers.
It amazes me how someone else’s trash can become another person’s art inspiration.
Great work!
