I was recently asked how I choose my next project or craft; what motivates me to try something different. My answer was…I think of a need or want and fill it.

Normally I keep a tea towel hanging on the dish washer handle to dry hands after doing dishes. I would say that nine times out of ten, the tea towel ends up on the floor. Stainless steel handle on the dishwasher and smooth cotton towel equals towel on the floor.

I remember fondly the kitchen towel attached to our cupboard door growing up which was used to dry your hands. I own only one that I have for Christmas but it is not an every day pattern that one wants to leave out year round.

I thought about trying to hand sew something to a tea towel but I have been having trouble finding tea towels to match the blue of our cupboards. I decided to attempt to knit a towel from a pattern that I found scrolling through Pinterest.

My mom had this left over variegated (apparently I have been spelling this word wrong forever) yarn that she let me have when I visited last. I knew it was the perfect colour combo for our new kitchen.

This was what I had left after I was done

I looked over the pattern and it only had knit, purl and yarn over stitches.

I recently watched a video to really get the purling down.

Sheep and Stitch YouTube videos are great to learn new knitting stitches.

She goes really slow, repeats herself and uses large needles and yarn so it is easy to see.

The pattern is from Stephanie C. Haberman on Ravelry – dish towel pattern (click on free Ravelry download).

I must be a loose knitter as I would have liked my finished project to be a bit tighter but other than that I was quite happy with it.

I LOVE how the colours blend in perfectly with the cupboards and the floors.

I would suggest using a full ball of yarn if you wanted to make this project.

The ball I used wasn’t full but probably 3/4 and you can see what is left at the top of my post.

If you are having trouble motivating yourself to try to make something, think of a need and figure out what you can make to fill it.
