A young man from my hometown died in a tragic accident this past weekend. The news greatly affected my brother’s family as my nieces and nephews grew up with him and his siblings. As I went in search of some comforting scripture to pass on, I came across the words from a familiar church hymn.

Come to me all who laden and are heavy burden and I will give you rest.

This sent me straight to Spotify and I started going thru some of my favourite Christian music listening for the ones that I thought might help for those in pain and needing comfort. I recalled that I get more comfort from hearing the Word thru music than I do from reading it.

I also heard news on Friday of the death of a teacher that Thomas had as a home room teacher when we lived in Russell ON. I remember her well, as I spent a lot of time volunteering at the school. She will be remembered fondly as a favourite teacher of many.

My aunt’s memorial service is tomorrow and she will be on my family’s hearts and minds.

Some of the song choices are more like a mantra; repeating the same words over and over. Some are upbeat and some are slow.
Listen carefully to the words.
Close your eyes and feel His presence.

My favorites (in case you only have time for a few)

This Little Light of Mine (not exactly the traditional one you are thinking of)

The Blessing (I put in two different versions and they are both great)

Is He Worthy

Nothing Else

Anyone needing reassurance and peace at this time, feel free to listen to my “Comfort” playlist. The excerpts that come up do not do the songs justice; you need to hear them from the beginning.

  1. Thank you, I am listening to these today. Just back from our Aunt’s funeral today and just what I needed. Xo my thoughts are with you for your own losses this week.

  2. What beautiful music Corinne I know many of these songs and music can bring comfort during a time when we need to feel God’s closeness and love.
