The tree line around our property is full of fallen trees and deadfall leaning on healthy trees. As a result, it is nearly impossible to walk through the trees without having to go under or over branches or full trees.

Although our yard experienced some flooding last week…

…the water has since receded and crossed under our range road (the culvert had been blocked with ice). We were able to go out and start pulling some of the downed branches out of the bush. As some trees had fallen on top of one another like “Pick Up Sticks”, my husband got in there with his chainsaw and cut enough so that we could drag pieces out.

After only a couple hours we had accumulated two piles of brush.

Most of the wood isn’t useable for much aside from burning it in the fire pit but we did find some nicer smaller branches that I can use for wood cookie ornaments. I laid them out to dry against a telephone pole. I also found this neat gnarled branch that I know I want to do something with.

To give you an idea, here is how it looks after and how another section looks that we still need to work on.

This kind of work is what we were looking forward to being out in the country. It is especially rewarding when we find wood that is still in half decent shape that we can use for a wood project.

  1. I see lots of wood projects ahead. You won’t need any from BC anymore . Looking forward to seeing all your new projects.
