Two years ago while visiting on Vancouver Island, we managed to get a 12 ft Douglas Fir 4X4 post. The plan was to slice them into blocks to use for future projects.

A project I wanted to make was a wedding celebration block. One of the people I used to work with got married last summer and I created this block for them. They have a strong faith so I added a bible passage and a cross. I included Mickey and Minnie kissing because it was so cute.

As you can see, two of the sides have very pronounced grain and those two sides were a bit difficult to burn onto.

So…when I went to make a similar block for my nephew’s wedding which was celebrated this past weekend, I decided to leave the top and bottom blank.

I used a couple of photos to try to capture them on one side and though they look a bit cartoonish, I think you can still ”see” them. On another side I put a grain elevator from the town where they grew up and fell in love. The date of the wedding on another and the last side has a favourite character.

I love this idea as a small gift that is personalized and allows me to incorporate wood burning into it. I also hope these wedding blocks will assist the men in being able to remember their anniversary dates.
