I have come to the realization that the majority of things I make at Christmas have a lot of two ingredients…butter and sugar. This next recipe is no exception.

I made this for the first time last year having bought an over abundance of pretzels that no one was eating. It is extremely addictive. I found this recipe on a blog site Bless This Mess Please. It is the same as the recipe with a soda cracker base but the pretzels stay firmer and provide more of a crunch. You also get the saltiness not only from sprinkling sea salt on top but also from the salt on the pretzels.

I have made it a few times on game night and it gets polished off quite quickly. That saves me from eating it all myself.

Salted Caramel Pretzel Bark

Ingredients:

Pretzel twists (enough to cover a baking sheet)

1 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips (one small bag)

Sea salt

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400°

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Fill bottom of cookie sheet with one layer of pretzels close together.

Heat butter till bubbling. Add sugar and cook on low heat until they come together. The mixture will look completely brown when combined. Do not let it boil.

It is not quite done. The butter on the edges that you see will eventually totally combine with the sugar and it will be all brown.

Pour caramel over pretzels.

Bake 5 min.

Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over caramel. The caramel will be bubbling but will quickly settle down.

Return to oven for 30 seconds-1 minute. Any longer and the chocolate will start to burn. Remove and gently spread chocolate over caramel mixture. Sprinkle with sea salt.

Let pan cool enough to handle then place in refrigerator to set.

After being in the fridge for a few hours

Break into pieces and store in an air tight container.

I have found that when you freeze this and take it out, the chocolate is more messy than it is from the fridge. Still tasty and incredibly addicting.

Make a batch, play some games and enjoy this sweet and salty snack.

NOTE: a year later after posting this. I have tried the recipe with Town House Flip Sides pretzel crackers as well but the best so far was using the flat Pretzel Crisps.
