Every year I put up a wreath for Christmas and take it down no later than the end of February. I decided this year to make a wreath I could put up mid March, an Easter wreath.
I have been looking for crafts using jean material. I saw some lovely wreaths using jeans. Some people glued seams onto styrofoam wreaths, others wrapped the jean legs around it and the last method I saw was strips of jean tied onto a wire wreath form.
I found some 14” wire wreaths at Dollar Tree.
I knew that I wanted burlap ribbon to go with the blue jean material. While looking for the brown burlap at Dollar Tree, I came across spools of pink and green plastic burlap so I bought some of those as well.
I chose some lighter jeans, ones that my husband had worn forever and those that eventually got too many holes for me to allow him to wear them anymore. I cut off one leg, cut off the seams and started cutting 6” long x 1/2” wide strips. I did the same with the burlap ribbon cutting each 6” piece into four strips (it came 2”wide).
This project is not at all difficult but is very time consuming. Each 6” piece needs to be tied onto the wire wreath in a reef knot. I went with a pattern of pink, blue, green, blue, beige, blue. I knew that the jean material is what I had the most of. I started on the inside and made my way outwards. I managed to finish 3 rings and a 1/4 of the fourth before I ran out of the burlap ribbon. Lucky for me, when I went back to dollar tree, they still had some left of all three colours.
I had some 2” burlap wire ribbon left so I tied a bow and attached it to the wreath with some wire.
Here is the full view of our front door.
In the next few weeks the pussy willows will be in bloom and I will snip some and add them to the wreath. My pussy willows from last year are too fragile and the puffs fall off too easily.
I love the way the colours go together. The burlap frays a bit when being tied but the effect reminds me of Easter grass used in Easter baskets. I am really pleased how the wreath turned out and plan to work on another soon with a summer vibe.
Nice!
