I love buttons!! I like the feel of them in my hands. I love the sound that they make when they clank together; a musical instrument in a bag. I smile when I see a mixture of buttons of all the colours of the rainbow. Buttons make me feel good.
Yesterday I was flipping through the latest Country Woman magazine. The cover had different craft ideas using buttons. I felt it was a sign for me to do my button post.
Pinterest is a wonderful place to find ideas. I saw lovely button trees that people had made. Some separated out the buttons and some had them close together. Some used multiple colours and others stuck to two or three. Some combined words and others had none.
My Winter Tree
I really like the blue, white and silver decorating look. I find it can last into the new year and not seem out of place. I wanted to create a winter tree picture using those colours.
For the tree I chose buttons that were blue, white and silver with brown buttons on the trunk. Some buttons shaped like stars, some plastic and some metal. I placed the buttons using a lovely knot in the wood as part of the trunk. Using Weld Bond, I glued them down and waited for them to dry. Sometimes the waiting is the hardest thing for me.
I drew, using pencil, a landscape and an edge around the tree. I found a fun font, Curlz MT size 90, and transferred the printed out script onto the wood with carbon paper. I used my burner and burned the letters, landscape lines and tree outline. Lastly, I painted the snow white.
My Mixed Media Scene
For this one I used yarn, rolled up magazine pages, buttons, beads and a paste of baking soda and glue. It was fun combining everything to create this winter scene.
My mom recently sent me a mixed bag of colourful buttons. I now need to decide which button project I want to try next. Whatever it is, I know it will make me happy.
Cute projects Corinne.
Thanks Gloria.
Really liked your trees Corinne
Thanks. I am pretty sure the beads on the second one are from the box of craft goodies you gave me a couple years ago
