I have been down and out with a bad summer cold for much of the past week. It is a perfect time for me to highlight some of Chris’s recent stained glass and spray paint art projects.

He was asked recently to create a graduation gift for someone. It was customary for a graduate in their family to receive a stained glass hat and scroll which had been made in the past by a relative. Now that that relative is no longer able to continue that tradition for the next generation, she wanted to keep it going in some way so she asked Chris to do the work. She may eventually do the stained glass herself but she has a young busy family. I am not allowed to share the project as it hasn’t yet been gifted.

Working on that project got him back in the frame of mind to make other stained glass projects. Sometimes all it takes is that one spark of an idea to get the creative juices flowing again.

He had made the green succulent for me last winter but decided to make the same project but in pink/purple and blue. He also figured out how to make a small square base that allows it to stands freely on its own. He had placed them in our laundry room window to see how they caught the light. I almost forgot to move them the next time I had the washing machine on. I am sure the spin cycle would have knocked at least one over.

The other project he made is this house in the trees. I really like the layering idea with the glass and I hope he decides to do more like this. It reminds me of two board games that we have played “Photosynthesis” and “Dorfromantik”. I decided to take it outside for the photo.

The other hobby Chris has been spending time doing this summer is spray paint art. This year he seems to be focused on trees. He made these trees that resemble a woman’s face. I asked him to do them in four colours representing the four seasons.

Fall-Spring-Winter-Summer. He refuses to display them in order.

Here are few more that he has on display in his office. He repurposed an old window frame to put three smaller ones into. The other is done on a repurposed canvas.

This last one is done on a canvas and is displayed on our living room wall.
These are my favourite colours.

There are a lot of other art that he has done but these that I have shared he has chosen to display so I know he feels good about them. As we were discussing today, “you can’t get good at anything without trying and perhaps failing at it first.”

  1. How true that statement is. Trying is moving forward even if we think it’s a failure.

  2. I am very impressed with all of Chris’s work. Good job!! …
Having some pretty good games of Sticks this summer. Love that game!
